Our Candidate Drug SH-217 Is An Effective Anti-PRRS Agent.

PRRS (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome, also known as Blue Ear Disease) is a viral disease characterized by two overlapping clinical presentations, reproductive impairment or failure in breeding animals and respiratory disease in pigs of any age. PRRS represents a major economically impactful disease of the US swine production since the eradication of classical swine fever (CSF). Currently, there is no single successful strategy for controlling PRRS, mainly due to the virus variation, large swine populations, and unresolved issues of viral transmission. Therefore, new preventative or therapeutic agents are of great need.

The PRRS Piglet
Obvious PRRS Symptoms of The Ears

Our candidate drug, SH-217 was put to the field test. The veterinarian gave PRRS-infected piglets judicious use of SH-217 thrice daily for 7 days. One day after taking SH-217, the PRRS symptoms tapered off. After three days, the viral load was undetectable. The piglets were fully recovered when the course of treatment was completed.

Based on our exciting preliminary results from the field, we are proposing trials on SH-217 against multiple viral strains. We anticipate the effectiveness of SH-217 to fight off a broad spectrum of viral infections, including RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus), NiV(Nipah virus), and ZIKV(Zika virus).
